Par contre Apple s'est montré très critique sur Windows Media Player 9 lors de sa sortie. Avec les rumeurs sur le service de musique en ligne d'Apple basé sur le standard AAC/MPEG-4 le format WMP semble avoir peu d'avenir sur Mac.

What's become very clear is that they [Microsoft] have become anti-standards -- it's not just anti-standards, they are turning their back on standards.
They believe they are so big that they can take away what consumers want. They believe their size and momentum can drive an entire industry in a proprietary direction with technologies built by Microsoft. That direction is very much opposite to where most of the industry is going."
